Epic Pods Connecting, Not Charging, or Squeaking in the Case

If your earbuds connect, will not charge, or make a squeaking or screeching sound while in the case, they are usually not making a clean charging connection. Dirt on the contacts keeps the earbuds powered on, so they try to connect instead of charging.

The usual fix is an alcohol wipe on the charging contacts (case and pods) and a fully charged case.

How to fix it

  1. Charge the case until the front light bar is solid (fully charged). Use the USB-C port on the left side of the case, or a wireless charging pad. The light bar pulses while charging.
  2. Take both earbuds out of the case.
  3. Wipe the gold charging contacts on each earbud with an alcohol wipe (isopropyl alcohol).
  4. Wipe the matching charging pins inside each case well.
  5. Let the earbuds and case dry completely. Do not put them back while they are still wet.
  6. Seat both earbuds firmly in the case and close the lid.

A slightly damp wipe is enough. Do not soak the case or drip liquid into the charging wells.

Connecting while in the case

If the earbuds are connecting while in the case, the case is not powering them off. That almost always means the charging contacts are dirty, or the case battery is too low to charge and shut them down. Clean the contacts, fully charge the case, then close the lid. They should disconnect from your phone.

Not charging in the case

If the earbuds are not charging in the case, they are not making contact with the case pins. Clean both the earbud contacts and the case pins with an alcohol wipe, let them dry, then seat the earbuds again. Confirm the case itself is fully charged (solid light bar) before you test.

Squeaking or screeching in the case

A squeak or screech in the case is the earbuds staying on with noise canceling or Be Aware still active. Sound then feeds back inside the closed case. Cleaning the charging contacts and fully charging the case lets the earbuds power off so the noise stops.

If it still happens

  • Check for lint or debris in the case wells, then wipe the contacts again.
  • Test one earbud at a time to see if only one side has a dirty contact.
  • Factory reset: place both earbuds in the case and hold the reset button on the back of the case for about 3 seconds. See How to factory reset JLab earbuds.
  • Update firmware in the JLab App. See Epic Pods ANC firmware versions.
